There’s a famous line from 1960s cinema that goes ‘No, I only sleep with girls I’m in love with.’ It’s from the film Le Petit Soldat directed by Jean-Luc Godard. It is one of the best French New Wave (La Nouvelle Vague) films that I’ve ever seen and that line is one that resonates with me on different levels. I know that everyone has their different take on love and life, but I find that there isn’t enough passion or romance in relationships nowadays. I feel too many people are just fucking (which can be great so don’t get me wrong) but what happened to all the romance? You know, the holding hands, the cuddling, the dressing up, going to a candle lit dinner and all that good stuff. I know finding that certain someone can be a difficult task but I think even the occasional romantic gesture can go a long way. You don’t have to be in love per se but at least be passionate or even a little crazy about the person. I want to get excited at the thought of them. I want my stomach to turn when we talk. I want my heart to skip a beat when I see her smile. It may be difficult to find, but I want to sleep with someone I’m in love with.
